SHIPPER’S DAY AT IRPT’S 2018 ANNUAL CONFERENCE

The Inland Rivers Port and Terminal Association (IRPT) will host a Shipper’s Day on Thursday, April 26 from 7:30 am to noon at the IRPT Annual Conference.  One of the main priorities has been to bring more commodities to the river system. One way to do this is to educate potential shippers on the benefits of river transportation, ease of access and such.  The IRPT would like to invite smaller shippers to take a look at river transportation, including the raw materials used in production as well as multiple shippers of the same raw materials that could utilize the same service, thus lowering costs.  Not all commodities will be a fit for river transportation, and in most cases, inland ports and terminals are multi-modal. For further information contact Aimee Andres, AMPE, Executive Director, Inland Rivers, Ports & Terminals, Inc., One Confluence Way, East Alton, IL 62024-Phone (618) 468-3010, Email: admin@irpt.net

SHIPYARD CERTIFICATION

The US Coast Guard is tasked with marking aids to navigation on ALL navigable rivers and they do so with an aging fleet. Many times, operations are halted due to unexpected - but needed maintenance. When this happens, a USCG certified facility must be used to perform the work.  The USCG has provided the guidance/policy for a drydock to become certified to perform work on Coast Guard cutters. If you are interested in becoming certified, the Coast Guard would welcome any added capability to perform routine/emergency maintenance on their ships to prevent untimely maintenance schedules. Please view the requirements to become US Coast Guard certified for drydock eligibility. Please access the guidance/policy for a drydock to become certified. This could provide a benefit to the river you work on.  (Provided by the IRPT)
