NEXT PROGRAM-INLAND PROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

The Inland Rivers Port and Terminal Association (IRPT) and the International Association of Maritime and Port Professionals (IAMPE) will be holding our Inland Maritime Port Executive Management Program in 2 weeks, beginning June 18th in Milwaukee, sponsored by the Port of Milwaukee.  We work carefully with the IRPT to insure that this program continues to offer a high degree of excellence based on practical experience, extensive research from numerous port projects, input from our alumni and practical application of solid academic standards.  In addition to IAMPE professional certification, the Loeb-Sullivan Graduate School at Maine Maritime Academy provides academic credits and participants receive a free membership in the IAMPE with all membership privileges.   The program has been well received by those who have enrolled and evaluations have been very positive.  The IAMPE has over 2,000 alumni worldwide through various programs.

Overall, this seminar expands your view of the industry as well as your own approach to managing your own port and terminal activities.  The 36 hour program can be taken in two sections if you are unable to commit to the full week; 2 days for the management section, and 2 ½ days for the executive certification.  We cover the state of the industry, port and terminal management, types of facilities and operations, safety, security and regulatory requirements, the river and waterways, property management, cargo management and shipper pricing, business development, tariffs, public relations, strategic, master and cargo planning.   The IRPT membership discount price is $1,800 ($900 for each portion).  Location information is below.

We still have several openings for this class.  REGISTRATION CLOSES ON WEDNESDAY JUNE 13th. Please register at info@iampe.org or call Capt. Ross at (207)409-9455.  We hope you can join us.

CROSSED THE BAR

We are sad to report that James “Jim” McCoy passed away May 28th in New York.  Jim was a distinguished Professor of Marine Transportation who served at the State University of New York Maritime College for 38 years. Jim left a lasting impact on the thousands of students he taught over the years.  He was considered tough, was famous for timing students in knot tying in seamanship class and insured that everyone knew the Rules of the Road by heart.   He deeply cared for everyone he taught and went out of his way to insure that his students were challenged and rose to their best capabilities.  On a personal note, he was a good friend and shipmate and we enjoyed many an hour together at sea, in the Fort and in the classroom with the many students whose lives we hope we positively influenced.  I will miss him, his unique humor and most of all his friendship.  His funeral will be Thursday June 7th in Bronxville, NY.  Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. Sailor, rest your oar.  Jeff

Questions about content or the Education Program and Standards?

Call Capt. Jeff Monroe, (207)741-7000 or email at Jeffrey.monroe@iampe.org

CAN’T DO THE ENTIRE PROGRAM IN ONE SHOT? You can take the management program in two phases, MPM/IMPM first two days, MPE/IMPE second two days.

Certifications come with each section, Academic Credits are awarded after completing the Executive Management Program.  We recommend doing the 36 hour program before taking Continuing Education because that 16 hour program builds on the content of the Executive Management Program
