IAMPE AWARDS PORT PROFESSIONAL ACCREDITATIONS

The International Association of Maritime and Port Professionals (IAMPE) is pleased to announce its latest class of maritime professionals to complete the IAMPE Accredited Marine Port Executive Program. Participants completed 16 addition hours of continuing education and will be part of the class of 2017. The continuing education program includes comprehensive seminar education offered by industry professionals and approved by the Board of the IAMPE.

The awards were made in Anchorage, Alaska. Receiving the professional designation of Accredited Marine Port Executive (AMPE) were Jim Jager, AMPE, Sharen Walsh, AMPE, Stuart Greydanus, AMPE and Cheryl Beckham, AMPE with the Port of Anchorage; Norm Regis, AMPE and Ron Long, AMPE with the City of Seward; Bryan Hawkins, AMPE, from the Port and Harbor of Homer; and Murph O’Brien, AMPE, Ron McPherson, AMPE and Cynthia Lowe, AMPE with HDR in Anchorage. This makes Anchorage the first North American port to have most of its senior staff reach the AMPE level. Congratulations to the Ports of Anchorage, Seward and Homer for their commitment to training, education and excellence in the industry.

The two-day seminar style program was hosted by HDR Inc. in their Anchorage office. Capt. Jeffrey Monroe, MM, AMPE of the HDR Boston/Portland office presented the seminar.

In addition to the professional certification, each individual receives 16 continuing education credits. IAMPE certifications are also awarded academic credit through the Loeb-Sullivan School of International Business & Logistics at the Maine Maritime Academy. Those with Professional Engineering (PE) and similar certifications also receive continuing education credits to maintain their credentials. All programs are reviewed and accepted by the Board of the IAMPE, comprised of senior executives from over 28 ports and business sectors in North America. IAMPE AND NORTH ATLANTIC PORTS ASSOCIATION SIGN LETTER OF COOPERATION

The North Atlantic Ports Association (NAPA) and the International Association of Maritime and PortExecutives (IAMPE) have signed a Letter of Cooperation to further their mutual efforts to provide professional training and continuing education for professionals in the maritime industry. The Letter of Cooperation provides priority for IAMPE programs to NAPA members. In addition, the IAMPE will offer a full program scholarship each year to a person selected by NAPA. “We look forward to working with NAPA to further professional education and training in the maritime industry,” said Capt. Jeffrey Monroe, Chair of the Committee on Standards and Education for the IAMPE. “We believe that our programs will provide an additional level of professional development for NAPA members.” John Henshaw, President of NAPA, said, “This Letter of Cooperation provides substantial professional development and networking opportunities for our member ports. Education is critical at all levels of the industry, and we are happy to make these programs available to our member ports through the IAMPE.”

CAPT. KEIFER AWARDED AMPE

Capt. Kevin Keifer, USCG-Chief of Staff, for Coast Guard District 1, has been awarded the AMPE certification by the Association. Capt. Keifer completed his MPE certification in 2013 and participated in an additional CEU bearing seminar. He has served in Boston for the past three years as Chief of Staff to the D1 Admiral. “We are pleased to have Capt. Keifer join the class of 2017 as an Accredited Marine Port Executive. His service to the US Coast Guard is an example of the high standards he and his fellow AMPE alumni maintain in our industry,” said Capt. Jeffrey Monroe, MM, AMPE-Director of Education and Standards for the Association. The AMPE is the highest level of professional certification available to industry professionals. AMPE certified professionals are among some of the most experienced people in the maritime and port industry.
