USDOT/FHWA ANNOUNCES NEW FUNDING PROGRAM
THE USDOT/FHWA has announced a new funding mechanism to provide 100 % federal aid fund eligibility for commercial truck parking. An extension of this concept is the extension of truck parking that is locating and enabling to modal options including tug and barge service. If I could guide any of your members from Maine to Mass, I would suggest that they self-advocate, set aside lands for, permit, and otherwise advance the capacity and function of commercial truck parking in close proximity to or within their Port Districts. This would enable our two modes to maximize efficiency, improve compliance with level of service requirements, improve safety, reduce congestion, improve air quality, and encourage cross mobilization of our freight moves for the efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
