NOT COMING TO A PORT NEAR YOU
MSC has entered its newest ship, the MSC GULSUN, into service. The vessel will operate between Xingang in China and Northern Europe. At 23,000 TEU’s, she now has the title of largest container ship in the world. Her length is 1,312 feet with a beam of 202 feet, and comes in at a fighting weight of 210,000 MT Gross Tons and 197,500 MT Deadweight. The vessel will handle containers 24 rows across. For port calls, 4 extra days are anticipated on the run. There are 12 more of these size vessels being built. These vessels are not anticipated to call on any US ports.
FALL PROGRAM FOR PORT AND TERMINAL LEGAL STAFF
The IAMPE, in cooperation with the University of Maine Law School, University of Maine Graduate and Professional Center, and the Maine Port Authority will offer a 1-day program for port and terminal attorneys, municipal attorneys, and legal professionals working or interested in the port industry. The program will cover a wide range of critical topics in this specialty area. The program is being developed to provide CLE credits. The date for the program is Friday, October 4th from 0830 to 1700 (8:30AM-5PM) at the International Marine Terminal Training Center in Portland, Maine. Registration closes September 28th.
CALIFORNIA COURSE DATE CHANGE
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the dates for the fall Tariff Seminar and MPM/MPE have changed. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. The seminars at the California State University – Maritime Academy (Cal Maritime) in Vallejo have been moved to October. The Tariff Workshop, which provides credit for Accredited Maritime Port Executive (AMPE), will be held Thursday and Friday, October 24th and 25th.
The Maritime Port Manager program will be held on Monday and Tuesday, October 28th and 29th, and the Maritime Port Executive program will be held Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, October 30th to November 1st (both programs can be taken back to back from October 28-November 1). Late October/early November is a beautiful time of the year to visit the Napa/Sonoma region!
