IAMPE CONGRATULATES FIRST CLASS OF MTO GRADUATES FROM UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE – KNOXVILLE

University of Tennessee- Knoxville students with MTO certificates

The International Association of Maritime and Port Executives (IAMPE) is pleased to announce its newest class of Marine Terminal Operators (MTO) who completed their certifications 15 January 2026, as part of the Port & Intermodal Operations course at the University of Tennessee- Knoxville, Haslam College of Business. The program class was taught by Dr. Don Maier, AMPE, CME, who is an Associate Professor of Practice – Supply Chain at the university. Students completed a 2-day, 8-hour classroom portion before heading to Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC to complete field experience over four days. The experience included various terminal tours at the Port of Charleston, Inland Port Greer (SC), the Port of Savannah, Yusen Logistics, and Gulfstream. Students also had the unique opportunity of boarding the Hapag-Lloyd cargo ship, M/V Torrente. The new class provided students a hands-on learning experience in a real-world application, and was also graciously supported by the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA).

 

 

Earning the Marine Terminal Operator (MTO) was Andrew Julian Wainwright, MTO; John Caplan, MTO; Mohammed Abdulmohsen Albahrani, MTO; Shelden Mickel, MTO; James Gordon Moffet, MTO; Nina Lin, MTO; and Luke Mulder, MTO.

The IAMPE is a non-profit industry association that provides professional development and certification for professionals at every level of their careers working in and around the maritime port industry. Programs are reviewed and approved for certification by the IAMPE’s Board of Advisors, comprised of 19 industry professionals. The Association offers professional and accredited programs in Coastal and Inland Port Management and Executive Management, as well as certification programs for Marine Terminal Operator and IMDG/Hazardous Awareness.
